A Murder That Echoes the Past
On Saint Patrick’s Day in Boston, a respected priest is found murdered in ritualistic fashion. The method bears eerie similarities to a killing carried out eight years prior by Connor and Murphy MacManus, the infamous vigilantes known as the Saints. Word of the priest’s execution travels to Ireland, where Father Sibeal delivers the news to the MacManus twins and their father, Noah, once feared as the assassin known only as Il Duce. The message is clear: someone is trying to frame the Saints.
Realizing they have been drawn back into a deadly game, Connor and Murphy unearth their weapons and gear. Despite Noah’s initial refusal to join them, the twins leave for America to clear their name and uncover the truth.
A New Ally on the Journey
During the sea voyage back to Boston aboard a container ship, Connor and Murphy encounter Romeo, a fiery Mexican underground fighter. Romeo immediately recognizes them as the Saints and pleads to join their cause. Amused by his enthusiasm and impressed by his loyalty, they agree.
Upon hearing a radio report linking Concezio Yakavetta—the son of their slain enemy Joe Yakavetta—to recent criminal activity, the brothers suspect him of orchestrating the priest’s murder to bait them out of hiding.
The Investigation Begins
At the crime scene in Boston, Detectives Greenly, Duffy, and Dolly assess the damage with trepidation. Their concern grows with the arrival of FBI Special Agent Eunice Bloom, the bold and analytical protégée of the late Paul Smecker. Her flamboyant demeanor and keen instincts quickly take command of the scene. Greenly, who had once aided the Saints, fears exposure.
Through her sharp analysis, Bloom determines that the MacManus brothers are not responsible. She begins to investigate the real killer, identifying him as Ottilio Panza, a contract assassin working for a shadowy figure known only as “The Old Man.”
The Saints Return to Action
Connor, Murphy, and Romeo locate a Triad-operated warehouse being used to process heroin for Yakavetta. Their assault is chaotic but effective, leaving the warehouse riddled with bodies. They then retreat to the safety of Doc’s bar, a familiar haunt from their past. There, they learn that the hitman responsible for the priest’s death was a freelancer and that Yakavetta is hiding in the Prudential Tower.
At the crime scene, Bloom uses her skill to reconstruct the incident and publicly confirms that the Saints have returned to Boston. Her investigation leads her to Gorgeous George, a flamboyant caporegime of Yakavetta, whom she confronts during a massage with a firm swat and her badge.
An Unlikely Alliance
George arranges a meeting between the Saints and a group of mobsters at a local bar. The ambush ends in bloodshed, with the Saints sparing only George. Moments later, Panza arrives to finish the job, but Bloom intervenes, shooting and wounding him. She then introduces herself to the Saints, revealing that she has been following in Smecker’s footsteps and intends to support their mission.
Together, they stage the scene to suggest infighting among the mobsters. Later, Bloom reunites the Saints with the relieved trio of Boston detectives, bringing them into the fold of the operation.
The Yakavetta Hit
Concezio Yakavetta holds a final meeting with his crew. The Saints arrive unannounced, executing Yakavetta and his associates. Bloom interrogates his consigliere Jimmy, uncovering ties to the elusive Old Man and confirming Panza’s association.
The FBI intervenes with the arrival of Agent Kuntsler, who suspends Bloom and takes over the case. That evening, as the group celebrates at Doc’s bar, Greenly is shot and killed by Panza. Suddenly, Noah reappears. Demanding Panza reveal his employer, Noah forces a tense standoff that ends with Panza’s execution.
Origins of Il Duce
Noah reveals a long-held secret: in 1958, he witnessed his father murdered by mobsters in New York. Fueled by vengeance, he turned to his best friend Louie for help. Together, they began a campaign of underworld executions. Louie eventually betrayed Noah, turning him over to the police.
Bloom, now acting outside the law, uncovers Louie’s whereabouts and presents the file to Noah. It reveals Louie’s identity as The Old Man. Noah prepares for one final reckoning.
Confrontation and Loss
At Louie’s fortified estate, armed hitmen await the Saints. Noah confronts Louie, who confesses that Noah had been a pawn—used to eliminate rival mob factions before being discarded. After rebuilding the Yakavetta empire in secret, Louie had once again set events in motion to tighten his grip.
A firefight erupts. The Saints and Romeo prevail, killing Louie’s guards. Though mortally wounded, Noah manages to kill Louie. When police arrive, Connor, Murphy, and Romeo are taken into custody and transported to a prison hospital.
A Network in the Shadows
Bloom meets again with Father Sibeal, who offers her sanctuary abroad. However, she is stunned to discover that Paul Smecker is alive, having faked his death. He has quietly created a support network for the Saints and plans to free them from prison.
The Mission Continues
Outside the prison, protestors demand the release of the Saints. Inside, Connor and Murphy gaze over the prison yard, observing the criminals below. With grim resolve, they understand that even in confinement, their mission is far from over.
