A City in Decline

In the heart of Boston, fraternal twin brothers Connor and Murphy MacManus lived a quiet, working-class life. Deeply rooted in their Irish Catholic faith, they attended Mass regularly, where one sermon about the tragic fate of Kitty Genovese struck a particularly resonant chord. That evening, as the city reveled in Saint Patrick’s Day celebrations, the brothers joined friends at their local pub. The night’s joy was soon shattered when three Russian mobsters entered, demanding the bar be vacated so the building could be cleared for its valuable land. A confrontation escalated. Despite their attempts to de-escalate the situation, the MacManus brothers fought back, humiliating the Russians in front of the crowd.

First Kill in Self-Defense

The following morning, two of the Russian thugs returned seeking retribution. What was meant to be payback turned fatal. In the ensuing struggle, Connor and Murphy killed both men. Though the act had been in self-defense, the city took notice.

The case was handed to FBI Special Agent Paul Smecker, a brilliant but eccentric investigator. As he examined the scene, he noted the public’s adoration of the twins. They were already being hailed as heroes. Choosing a cautious approach, Connor and Murphy turned themselves in to the police. During the interview with Smecker, they recounted the incident in full. Convinced by their honesty and recognizing the political complications of arresting public darlings, Smecker released them without charges. He arranged for them to stay in a holding cell overnight to avoid the growing media frenzy.

That night, the brothers experienced a profound spiritual awakening. They interpreted it as a divine calling: to rid Boston of those who thrived on violence, crime, and exploitation.

A New Mission Begins

Their first mission led them to a hotel where a group of Russian mobsters were rumored to be meeting. Equipped with weapons procured from a black-market arms dealer, Connor and Murphy executed a carefully planned assault, killing nine mob members in one brutal sweep. Mid-operation, their old friend Rocco unexpectedly arrived. Sent by his mafia boss, Giuseppe “Papa Joe” Yakavetta, Rocco had been tasked with an assassination. The scene’s bloodshed made it clear that he had been set up to die.

Rocco, shaken and enraged, joined forces with the MacManus twins. That night, they tracked down and killed Papa Joe’s underboss, Vincenzo Lapazzi, at a seedy adult entertainment venue.

A Legendary Assassin Enters the Fray

Papa Joe, mistakenly believing Rocco had gone rogue, brought in a mythic enforcer: Il Duce. Feared by criminals and enforcers alike, Il Duce was a gun-for-hire whose very name inspired dread. Unaware of the danger, Rocco convinced the twins to help him eliminate a man tied to a traumatic past. The target was located at a gambling den.

As the trio left the scene, Il Duce ambushed them. The firefight was fierce. Though wounded, the three managed to escape. Rocco lost a finger in the shootout, and all were left severely injured. They sought refuge in a safehouse, where their wounds were crudely cauterized.

The Investigation Narrows

Later, as law enforcement secured the site of the gun battle, Smecker noticed a trail that had gone overlooked. While the brothers had attempted to cover their tracks with ammonia, the severed finger remained. DNA analysis quickly linked it to Rocco, and the full picture began to emerge.

Smecker found himself torn. On one hand, he was bound by duty. On the other, he had seen firsthand the kind of people the trio were eliminating. The moral clarity he once believed in had grown murky. A night of heavy drinking at a gay bar led him into confessional, where an uneasy priest gave reluctant guidance. Finally, Smecker made his choice: he would assist the brothers.

An Assassination Plan Unfolds

The trio set their sights on Papa Joe’s mansion. Their intention was to end his reign of crime permanently. Smecker, now an insider, discovered that they were walking into an ambush. Though he rushed to warn them, it was too late.

Connor and Murphy were captured, and Rocco was executed by Papa Joe himself. As Papa Joe departed, Smecker entered the mansion in disguise, dressed as a female escort. He attempted a rescue, only to be knocked unconscious by Il Duce.

Inside, as the twins grieved over Rocco’s body, Il Duce appeared again. But instead of pulling the trigger, he recited the final lines of the brothers’ prayer—revealing that he was their estranged father. He chose to join them in their crusade.

Justice Redefined

Three months passed. Papa Joe, once again on trial, appeared confident that justice would not reach him. The courtroom, crowded with reporters and spectators, buzzed with the assumption that he would walk free. But this time, events took a different turn.

Connor, Murphy, and Il Duce, aided by Smecker and sympathetic detectives within the Boston Police Department, infiltrated the courthouse. They held the courtroom hostage and made their intentions clear. Standing before a stunned crowd, the trio condemned the system that allowed evil to flourish unpunished. As they delivered their family prayer, they publicly executed Papa Joe.

The Rise of the Saints

The act was met with divided reactions. Some viewed them as murderers. Others saw them as necessary instruments of justice. The media dubbed them “the Saints.” Boston had been changed. Whether for better or worse remained unclear.
