In 1969, at a prison in Marseille, France, an American fugitive lay frail and ill, his health deteriorated by the harsh conditions of his confinement. FBI Agent Carl Hanratty arrived to escort the prisoner, Frank Abagnale Jr., back to the United States. Their long pursuit had finally come to an end, but the road leading there had been paved with years of deception, forgery, and manipulation.
Early Influences
Years earlier, Frank Jr. had grown up in New Rochelle, New York. His father, Frank Abagnale Sr., was a charismatic man with a talent for persuasion and a penchant for subtle cons. Frank observed these methods closely, unknowingly learning the foundations of manipulation and deceit. However, legal troubles soon caught up with his father, particularly tax issues with the IRS. As a result, the family lost their home and was forced to relocate to a modest apartment.
